Pick a common occupation, lets say a teacher. You ask them, what does it mean to be a teacher? Well, you get all sort of wonderful things from them, and asked them, an example of distinguished person who inspired them to be one. Well, this is the time they mention the unlimited apple polisher which comes with the job. Well, some people even have some sort of corporate tales in order to inspire them to work harder.
An architect will always have the story of Frank Lloyd Wright and his legendary leaked roof, and literally become the stories of all those proud architect who gave it their all in their job. Older generation architect will tell that tales over and over and suddenly that story stopped somewhere and it just end there. Thus there's this sense of urgency for stories to be published, website to established, and all sort of effort to capture that loss knowledge before if finally died, and hopefully, someone will try to look back and be amazed.
In construction industry, there are no pride for the engineers. Who usually get the compliment? The architect, or the client. Look at the magnificent pyramid, who gets all the honor? The Pharaoh, and only his name will be remembered. Thank God that that time they don't compare phallus like we do, the longer it'll become. and who gets the glory? Is it the engineer? The engineer might only be known in certain circles of people, and that's it.
Asked a civil engineer: What does it mean to an engineer? Usually you'll get the normal response, long hours short pay. Well, why are we doing this job? We have been exploited, and abused and a whole lot other factors till up to a point where there is no passion in doing what we do.
Now, ask an engineer to tell a tale that inspire them, or, ask them who John Smeaton was. Well, I have absolute faith in them that they have no idea. Well, there's a lot of tale of passion in this once proud profession. Now this is only a job.
I want to enjoy what i do. I really do. I know the story, I know the concept, and I am real good when I have a reference book beside me. I only know that my stories when reproduced in foochow will sound funny
